Don’t Give Away Your Spirit!

I am reading a fascinating book called “Sacred Contracts” by Caroline Myss.  The premise of the book is we enter into contracts with all significant people in our lifetime to learn, evolve and heal as a spirit while on earth.  At the same time we are helping others on their spiritual journeys.

Caroline writes, when you do not seek or need external approval, you are at your most powerful.  Think about it!  How many days and nights were you upset over what someone else said or thought about you?   Why was their opinion of you more important than your opinion of you?  What I have come to know in my almost 60 years on this planet is someone else’s opinion of me is none of my business.

I wake every morning with the intention of being the best me I can possibly be.   As all of you reading this I am still and will be until my death a work in progress.  My stepson suffers with anxiety over what people think of him.  I try to impart this wisdom on him, but being only 16 he will still need to truly discover who he is to achieve a sense of peace in his own skin.  I hope in some small way I help him achieve this goal.

I discovered every time I let someone else dictate who they think I should be I give a piece of my spirit and power to another person.  Once I made this discovery I truly started to find happiness in my life and with those I choose to surround myself with.  I don’t do drama and will not have it in my life.  This has meant disconnecting from people in my past which continuously caused drama and drained my spirit.  As you read this I am sure you can identify someone in your life that does not lift you up, but brings you down.  I am not suggesting you immediately stop associating with this person, merely identify them and protect your spirit when you are around them.  If possible, help them see the negativity they bring to your relationship and change the dynamics of this relationship.

Finally, I am living my best life and enjoying all the people I have surrounding me.  I hope you find the same in your life.

Linda
